Our Mission

Community

Overflow exists to build a vibrant community among young adults who boldly confess Jesus as Lord. As passionate followers of Christ, we come together to cultivate deep friendships and offer unwavering encouragement. We aim to challenge each other to love fiercely and pursue good works relentlessly, lifting each other up with the transformative knowledge of our Lord. Together, we’ll grow, serve, and make an impact for Christ in our world.

Worship

Having been created in the image of God, we believe that our worship should be an expression of the heart of our Father who made us to be like Him. We recognize that true worship can only be done in spirit and truth and any act of worship should be in response to the truth of God’s Word. We prioritize avenues towards worship such as prayer, song, and Scripture study.

Outreach

Overflow is dedicated to sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. All Christians are called to proclaim the Gospel, while recognizing that it is only Jesus who can save a believing heart. Our aim is to equip and inspire believers to fulfill their role in spreading the message of Christ’s love and redemption.

Local Church Support

We strive to validate the necessity of the local church through our support of it. We, in no way, wish to be independent of the body of Christ; rather, to be a resource for it. By bringing young adults and young adult groups together, our desire is to reinforce the responsibility each of us has to the church.

Our Story

Overflow’s roots began among college students on a school campus in Florida in 2018. God put it on the heart of Grant Ryan to start a Bible Study among his peers. Overflow New England was born because of a faithful pastor in New England. Mike Fourman, driven by a passion for the region and knowledge of how God has used this age group in the past, reached out to Grant Ryan and Jake Ludka to bring Overflow to New England. With his help and vision, they led the very first Overflow retreat in the Fall of 2019. Forty young adults eager to join in on the peer-led discussion attended. In 2022, Overflow relaunched with its second fall retreat in Chester, CT. Over the years, Overflow has ministered to young adults in New England through retreats, worship, outreach, and community. In 2023, Overflow had its first mission trip to Framingham, MA; and in 2024, the Overflow Podcast NE launched as it continues its mission to connect with young adults in New England, centered on the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Our Beliefs

The Scriptures

The Holy Bible was written by men divinely inspired and is God’s completed, written revelation of Himself to man. It is the eternal Word of God, preserved for all generations and is the perfect treasure of divine instruction. It has God for its author, salvation for its end, and truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. Therefore, all Scripture is totally true and trustworthy. It reveals the principles by which God judges us, and therefore is, and will remain to the end of the world, the true center of Christian union, and the supreme standard by which all human conduct, creeds, and religious opinions should be tried. All Scripture is a testimony to Christ, who is Himself the focus of divine revelation.

Ex. 24:4; Deut. 4:1-2; Ps. 19:7-10, 119:89; Prov. 30:5-6; Is. 40:8; Mat. 5:17-18; Jn. 12:44-48; 2 Tim. 3:16-17; 2 Pet. 1:19-21

Godhead

There is one and only one living and true God. He is an intelligent, spiritual, and personal Being—the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe. God is infinite in holiness and all other perfections. God is all powerful and all knowing. His perfect knowledge extends to all things, past, present, and future, including the future decisions of His free creatures. The eternal triune God reveals Himself to us as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, ever co-existing, equal in power and unity without division of nature, essence, or being, but with distinct, harmonious functions. To Him we owe the highest love, reverence, and obedience.

Deut. 6:4; Jn. 1:1; Col. 1:16

A. God the Father

God as Father reigns with providential care over His universe, His creatures, and the flow of human history according to the purposes of His grace. He is all powerful, all knowing, all loving, and all wise. God is Father in truth to those who become children of God through faith in Jesus Christ.

Deut. 32:6; Ps. 47:8, 103:13; Is. 40:28; Jer. 10:10; Mat. 5:45; 2 Cor. 3:18; Eph. 1:3, 4:6

B. God the Son

The Lord Jesus is truly and eternally God. He has always been and never was created. In His incarnation as Jesus Christ, the Son of God was conceived of the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. Jesus perfectly revealed and did the will of God, taking upon Himself human nature with its demands and necessities and identifying Himself completely with mankind yet without sin. He honored and fulfilled the divine law by His personal obedience; and in His substitutionary death on the cross, He made provision for the redemption of men from sin. He was raised from the dead with a glorified body and appeared to His disciples as the person who was with them before His crucifixion. He ascended into heaven and is now exalted at the right hand of God where He is the One Mediator, fully God, fully man, in whose Person is the only means of reconciliation between God and man. He will return in power and glory to judge the world in righteousness and to consummate His redemptive mission. As the Head of His church, He now dwells in all believers as the living and ever present Lord.

Is. 7:14; 53:1-12; Mat. 5:17, 28:18; Jn. 1:1, 3:16-17, 10:30; Acts 4:12; Php. 2:5-11; Col. 1:13-22; Heb. 1:1-3; Rev. 22:7

C. God the Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the eternal Spirit of God, fully divine. He inspired holy men of old to write the Scriptures. Through illumination He enables men to understand truth. He exalts Christ. He convicts men of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment. He calls men to the Savior, and effects regeneration. At the moment of regeneration, He baptizes every believer into the Body of Christ. He cultivates Christian character, comforts believers, and bestows the spiritual gifts by which they serve God through His church. He seals the believer unto the day of final redemption. His presence in the Christian is the guarantee that God will bring the believer into the fullness of the stature of Christ. He enlightens and empowers the believer and the church in worship, evangelism, and service.

Gen. 1:2; Jn. 14:16-26, 15:2, 16:7-14; Acts 1:8; 5:3-4; Rom. 12:6-8; Eph. 3:5; Titus 3:5; Heb. 9:14; 2 Pet. 1:21

Salvation

Salvation involves the redemption of sinful man, is offered freely to all, and is effectual in those who accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, who by His own blood obtained eternal redemption for the believer. In its broadest sense salvation includes regeneration, justification, sanctification, and glorification. There is no salvation apart from personal faith in Jesus Christ as Lord.

A. Regeneration, or the new birth, is a work of God’s grace whereby believers become new creatures in Christ Jesus. It is a change of heart wrought by the Holy Spirit through conviction of sin, to which the sinner responds in repentance toward God and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are inseparable experiences of grace.

Repentance is a genuine turning from sin toward God. Faith is the acceptance of the redemptive work of Jesus Christ and commitment of the entire person to Him as Lord and Savior.

B. Justification is God’s gracious and full acquittal, imputing Christ’s righteousness to all sinners who repent and believe in Him. Justification brings the believer into a relationship of peace and favor with God.

C. Sanctification is the process, beginning with regeneration, by which God sets apart the believer to His purposes, and enables the believer to progress toward moral and spiritual maturity through the presence and power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in him. Growth in grace should continue throughout the believer’s life.

D. Glorification is the culmination of salvation and is the final and eternal state of the redeemed.

Jn. 3:16-18, 5:24, 10:28-29; Acts 4:12, 16:30-31, 22:21; Rom. 1:16-18, 3:23-25, 5:8-10; Tit. 2:11-14

Evangelism and Missions

It is the duty and privilege of every follower of Christ to endeavor to make disciples of all nations. The new birth of man’s spirit by God’s Holy Spirit means the birth of love for others. Missionary effort on the part of all rests thus upon a spiritual necessity of the regenerate life, and is expressly and repeatedly commanded in the teachings of Christ. The Lord Jesus Christ has commanded the preaching of the gospel to all nations. It is the duty of every child of God to seek constantly to win the lost to Christ by verbal witness undergirded by a Christian lifestyle, and by other methods in harmony with the gospel of Christ.
